Our glossary entry for User-Agent
The "user agent" (often also referred to as agent) is the identifier (identification) with which a program directs inquiries to a server. The user agent is a kind of program description so that the server knows which program is currently executing the call.
The user agent is set by your browser, for example, so that the web server that receives the call knows from which browser you are making the request. For example, the web server could deliver a different result for a query via the Chrome browser than if the query was made via a user agent that comes from a Firefox browser, for example.
You can also use our HTTP check to check the user agent you are using.
Back to indexUser-Agent is a key/value pair in an HTTP request header that identifies the type of client making a request to a server. It can be used in server monitoring to identify, track and categorize traffic from different users and clients. Knowing which user agent made each request can help operations teams gain insight into how the server is being used and identify performance issues.
